
Palmer Meeting
Every year, close to Midsummer because it's a round of truly epic duration and we need all the daylight that's going, Green Hollow Bowmen have their annual Palmer Shoot. The Palmer is an old traditional round where you just count hits on a white target. It consists of 16 dozen arrows with 4 dozen each at 4 decreasing distances - 120 yards, 90 yards, 60 yards and 30 yards. Ah, well, you may be saying, at least it gets easier as you go along. Not so.

The sizes of the target areas decrease as the distances shorten so while you start with a huge 5 foot diameter target at 120 yards (pictured above), you gradually shrink down to a teeny-weeny pitifully wee 1 foot diameter target face at 30 yards. As much an endurance test as an archery event, we rather enjoy it. Nobody ever said we were normal...
