Club Captaincy

This competition was first introduced to celebrate the new millenium. Every March a special bow-meeting is held to decide who will be the club’s Captain for the year. A Mugdock Round is shot at the butts to set the order of precedence for the shoot-off which follows. The lowest scoring archer in the butts round gets first go in the shoot-off which involves each archer in turn shooting one arrow to try and hit a five-inch diameter white disc at forty yards – the first to do so wins the title of Club Captain for the year.

The duties of the Club Captain are said to be many and varied. However, nobody really knows exactly what they are beyond finding a nice place on the mantlepiece for the Captain’s Quaich and keeping it dusted until the next year’s meeting. No doubt some day we’ll get round to thinking of other things for the Captain to do... hmmm... get round to thinking... Mugdock round... no... round.......... round of drinks! Now there would be a good start.
